Volunteer at the Hall of Flame Museum

The Volunteer organization of the Hall of Flame

The Hall of Flame Museum of Firefighting has three main goals: the collection, preservation and display of historic fire apparatus from
all over the world, with emphasis on American apparatus and equipment; fire safety instruction and programs for the general public, especially children; and the recognition of American firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The volunteer organization of the Hall of Flame Museum of Firefighting was established to help augment and enhance the museum’s programs in various capacities. Our volunteers are expected to take an active part in at least one of our committees. If you think you have time, and would like to be involved, here is a brief description of the committees and the functions of each.

Docent committee

Volunteers act as tour guides for organized tours of the museum galleries. Gallery guides can give presentations of how a specific apparatus works and was utilized, or just rove around the galleries to interact with and answer questions that visitors may have. If history is an interest or a hobby, or you are a former firefighter, and you enjoy interacting with other people, becoming a docent would be a fulfilling endeavor.

Apparatus committee

Volunteers with mechanical knowledge are involved in vehicle maintenance, restoration or preservation as needed to keep the apparatus in top display condition and operational readiness. If you are mechanically inclined, have operated fire equipment previously, take pride in maintaining apparatus appearance then the apparatus committee may pique your interest.

Special Events committee

Volunteers are involved with in-house and off-site activities where they help to promote the museum’s programs. Manning the museum’s fire apparatus at offsite events and helping host special events/programs at the museum are just a few of the functions of this committee. If you like helping to organize events, enjoy interacting with others, then assisting in special events may feel right at home to you.

Gallery display/maintenance committee

Volunteers on this committee help build, repair, position, and maintain the displays in each of the museum’s galleries.
If you have a background in carpentry, electrical, or other building trades, or just enjoy keeping things clean, tidy, and organized, then you may enjoy functioning in this capacity.

If you feel you might enjoy giving us a hand and enjoy the fellowship of being part of an amazing organization, or have additional questions, please contact us for more information. We would love to have you join our team.
