1890 “Pung” Fire Sleigh

Pungs (the Algonquin word for sled) were commonly used in snowy regions of the northern United States. This one, a converted Studebaker wagon, was built in 1890 by a blacksmith named Chevrette for the Negaunee Fire Department on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It was used to carry hose, ladders and fire equipment to the scene.
